GE Refrigerator Control Board – Replace it Yourself!

It is quite common for the GE refrigerator main control boards to have issues and need to be replaced. We’ve had to replace the control board on our GE refrigerator but it was really simple. If your GE main controller board is going out then you might experience one or more of the following issues…

  • A “whirring” or “whining” noise from the back of the refrigerator
  • The ice maker/dispenser quits working
  • Clicking noise from the rear of the refrigerator
  • Refrigerator or freezer stops cooling altogether
  • Front control panel quits working
  • Temperature fluctuations with cooling/freezing and ice melting/refreezing
  • Using the ice or water dispenser the fans stop and refrigerator lights dim
  • Fan motor noisy or constantly changing speeds
  • Ice melts then refreezes

If you are experiencing one or more of these issues then you might want to consider replacing the main control Board on your GE refrigerator. Fortunately, it is relatively simple and inexpensive to replace these control boards. I added a video below to help with the process but it should only take about 20-30 minutes, even if you aren’t that handy.

First, you’ll want to get the model number from the inside of your refrigerator. Then visit the GE Main Control Board page on amazon and enter it into the “make sure this fits” field to ensure it is compatible. If not it’ll give you a few other control board options so you should test those as well.

Here is a video of the replacement procedure for the main control board on your GE refrigerator. As you’ll notice, it is quite easy.

Here is a great review from a customer that experienced similar issues with the control board and replaced it on their own…

“My 13-yr-old GE Elite Refrigerator stopped cooling. The ice maker lights barely came on and none of the temperature displays were lit inside the refrigerator. After a bit of searching online, I soon realized that the main control board was dead. I purchased this control board and It took 15 minutes to remove the old one and replace it. Worked like a charm!”

Let us know if this fixed your GE refrigerator (or not) in the comments below so we can help others resolve this controller board issue as well!

Need help with my PFSF2MIXBWW GE Profile Bottom Freezer refrigerator. I replaced the main control board WR55X10832 after a “hard” failure – no cooling if FF or FZ sections. Now I am having defrost problems – freezer is getting way too warm and defrosting more than 1x/day. Today both FF & FZ sections were 56F. Thermistors and heater element check OK and I replaced the defrost thermostat. One thing I noticed – the new vs old part numbers are not identical on the main control board. Old board was “1304-03-70”. New board is GEA6304-01. Is this the right board for… Read more »

Display stopped working on my GE fridge GSS25GMHGCES. Ordered a new control board, did not fix the problem, replaced the display board, still did not fix the problem. Freezer and fridge work fine, just no display, cannot dispense water or ice. What else could possibly be the problem?
